'O'Romeo' Trailer: Shahid Kapoor Will Kill for Triptii Dimri in Vishal Bhardwaj's Edgy Potboiler
Also featuring Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary and others, 'O'Romeo' is slated to release on February 13, 2026, on the eve of Valentine's Day.
A heady brew of violence, romance and longing powers the trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj’s latest, O’Romeo. Starring Shahid Kapoor as a razor-wielding Mumbai gangster who falls headlong in love, the film marks the fourth collaboration between Bhardwaj and Kapoor, after their work on Kaminey, Haider and Rangoon.
Loosely inspired by real people and events, the film follows the brash, charismatic Ustara (Kapoor) and his love for a sad, mysterious woman played by Triptii Dimri. In the trailer, Kapoor is approached by Dimri to take on a supari (contract) to kill a big-shot gangster. This covenant hinged on love sends him down a dark, bloody path from the streets and local trains of Mumbai to a vast colosseum, where he faces off against a bare-chested Avinash Tiwary.
Mounted on a massive scale, O’Romeo features a large ensemble. Kapoor and Dimri are joined by Tiwary, Nana Patekar, Farida Jalal, Tamannaah Bhatia and Disha Patani, while Vikrant Massey will be seen in a special appearance. The film boasts an unapologetically massy treatment and florid dialogue-baazi. "Ustara se panga nahi lene ka… shareer se aatma katke le jaata hai (Don't mess with Ustara. He'll severe your soul from your body)" Kapoor says in the trailer.
O'Romeo is said to present a highly fictionalised account of the story of Sapna Didi, as chronicled in S. Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges' non-fiction book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. According to underworld legend, Sapna Didi, born Ashraf Khan, driven by vengeance after her husband’s death, turned to the gangster Hussain Ustara for support and training. Her crusade threatened the stranglehold of Dawood Ibrahim's D-company on the Mumbai underworld.
After the teaser for O'Romeo dropped, a controversy erupted after Ustara’s daughter sent a legal notice to the makers, objecting to what she claimed was a misrepresentation of her father’s life and his relationship with Sapna.
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner, O'Romeo is slated to release on February 13, 2026, on the eve of Valentine's Day.
