Triptii Dimri has been roped in as the female lead of Prabhas-starrer Spirit, days after Deepika Padukone's reported exit from the film. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga confirmed the casting news, following rumours of a rift between him and Padukone.

Touted as a dark cop-thriller, Vanga was originally looking to cast Padukone opposite Prabhas in the film, but the duo hit a roadblock and the contract fell through.

Vanga took to X and shared a creative announcing Dimri as the new lead. Dimri had become an overnight sensation after his 2023 blockbuster Animal.

"The female lead for my film is now official :-)," Vanga wrote. In a separate post, Bhushan Kumar's T-Series, which is producing Spirit, called it an "ambitious pan-world" film.

After making her debut with the 2018 romantic-drama Laila Majnu, Dimri found acclaim on OTT with Bulbbul (2020) and Qala (2022), both directed by Anvita Dutt.

Post Animal, Dimri has featured in more mainstream films, including Bad Newz, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, all released in 2024.

Padukone, meanwhile, is already rumoured to have locked Allu Arjun's next, directed by Atlee. She will also be seen in Shah Rukh Khan's King in a special appearance.
