Saldaña has starred in four of the six highest-grossing films of all time, but like Kieran Culkin, who won in the male category, this was her first Oscar nomination — and her first win.

The actor also thanked director Jacques Audiard “for being so curious about these women to tell their story,” along with the rest of the cast and crew of the film.
“And to my husband, with that beautiful hair,” she said. “The biggest honour of my life is being your partner.” Saldaña thanked him for "hanging up the moon", and their three sons for filling up her skies.
In her speech, she notably recalled her grandmother immigrating to the United States in 1961. The actor said, “I am a proud child of immigrant parents with dreams and dignity and hardworking hands. I’m the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award, and I know I will not be the last.”
