A still from 'Paathirathri'

In an intense teaser, Paathirathri sets us up for an intruding conflict between two police officers. But instead of two men who work in tandem on one case, Pathi Rathri (midnight) appears to be about a married couple who are also two working police officers. We see both Soubin Shahir and Navya Nair in police uniforms and the teaser ends with a chase and an investigation. The narration also describes a conflict in their marriage and about a situation in which they are beginning to drift apart, adding a personal angle to a professional issue.

The film is being directed by Ratheena, who had made the Mammootty starrer Puzhu. “Paathirathri — where midnight begins its tale.  When two police officers, Hareesh and Jancy, stumble upon a mysterious event at midnight, they unleash a chain of unpredictable consequences that threaten their careers, relationships, and lives,” reads the synopsis.

Apart from Navya Nair and Soubin Shahir, the film stars Ann Augustine, Sunny Wayne, Athmiya Rajan, Sabareesh Varma, Harisree Ashokan, Achyuth Kumar, Indrans and Thejas. The producers are Dr Kv Abdul Nazar and Ashiya Nazar and it is being shoot by Shehnad Jalal ISC. Music is by Jakes Bejoy and the writer is Shaji Maraad. Sreejith Sarang is the film’s editor.

Actor Soubin was last seen in Rajinikanth’s Coolie. Navya Nair acted in 2023 Janaki Jaane. This will also be the latest release of Jakes Bejoy as a composer after Lokah Chapter One: Chandra. Lokah had most recently been declared the highest grossing Malayalam movie of all time. The film, still running to packed houses in Kerala is also inching closer towards becoming the first ever Malayalam movie to hit the Rs.300 crore mark. This record would also make the Malayalam industry to be the only major mainstream movie industry in India to have a female-led movie as its highest grosser. This also makes it the highest grossing South Indian movie being led with a female star.
