Cinematographer Pratik Shah, who has been accused of inappropriate behaviour and sexual misconduct, has been dropped from the biopic of former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly. THR India has learnt that the makers have discontinued their association with Shah, who had been preparing for the project and was recently on a location scout.
The film will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, who has previously collaborated with Shah on titles such as Ananya Panday-starrer CTRL and the acclaimed Prime Video series Jubilee. Actor Rajkummar Rao is on board to headline the Ganguly biopic.
"The recce was on till recently, and Shah was in London for the same. Allegations against him surfaced just around the time he returned to India. The makers have dropped him from the project and will now naturally look for a replacement before beginning production," a source said.
Allegations against Shah first came to light when filmmaker Abhinav Singh accused him of being "highly manipulative" and "emotionally abusive" based on the testimony of multiple women.
The cinematographer, who has also shot Neeraj Ghaywan's Homebound and was in Cannes with the team, has deactivated his Instagram account since the allegations surfaced late Thursday evening.
THR India had previously reported how Shah was also under the scanner four years ago when a young cinematographer had reached out to a senior member of the Indian Women Cinematographers' Collective (IWCC) and complained against him after he solicited a nude picture. He had then apologised, a source close to IWCC confirmed.
