

Noted film producer and distributor RB Choudhary passed away late last night (May 5) after a tragic car collision which took place in Beawar, Rajasthan. He was 76 and the father of Tamil actor Jiiva and Jithan Ram.
Choudhary’s production company Good Night Films has made close to 100 films since it began operations in 1988 with Adipapam in Malayalam. Their 50th film Jilla starred Superstars Vijay and Mohanlal and there were reports that Vijay who would star in their 100th film. Choudhary has produced several films starring Vijay, including Poove Unakkaga, Love Today, Thullatha Manamum Thullum, Shahjahan, Thirupaachi, and Jilla.
According to The Hindu, Choudhary bankrolled 99 films, several of which turned out to be superhits. He is also said to have introduced over 34 directors, including KS Ravikumar, Vikraman, S Ezhil, Rajakumaran, Sasi, Major Ravi and Ravi Maria. Apart from making films in the four South Indian languages, he also made a film in Hindi. He had recently produced the Fahadh Faasil-Vadivelu starrer Mareesan in Tamil and was working on a film with actor Vishal.
Expressing his sadness at the demise, Rajinikanth took to X to write, “dear friend, Super Good Films R.B. Choudhary is a top-notch producer. A wonderful human being. He has given opportunities to countless young directors and kept the film world alive. His untimely death news has left me in great shock and immense sorrow (SIC)."
Several others chimed in with their condolences for someone who was respected as one of Tamil cinema's most prolific producers.
