Actor Ryan Gosling-led science fiction feature Project Hail Mary has performed excellently in India, putting up a total of nearly ₹80 crore nett since its release on March 26. The film, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, opened in cinemas a week after Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge, headlined by Ranveer Singh.

The film minted approximately ₹29.50 crore in its first week, with the second week showing a remarkably stable ₹24.25 crore, as per numbers reported by Pinkvilla.

The film netted ₹5.75 crore in its fourth weekend, with its best collection coming on Sunday, when it estimated around ₹2.50 crore. The drop was around 51 per cent, as Project Hail Mary had minted nearly ₹11 crore on its third weekend.

The significant drop might hinder its chances of hitting the ₹100 crore mark in India, as was previously expected. But all is not lost, as the film still has a chance of hitting the number if it continues its run at a stable pace, with the next weekend recording a jump.

Based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the film follows the story of Ryland Grace (Gosling), a schoolteacher who awakens on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he got there.

The film also faced competition with Dhurandhar 2 which has emerged as the biggest Hindi blockbuster of all time, as well as one of the highest grossing Indian titles in history.

According to the official collections by the makers, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has minted ₹1,153 crore nett in India and an estimated ₹1,783 crore gross globally since its release on March 19.

The other Hindi film that's minting money at the box office is Akshay Kumar-led horror comedy Bhooth Bangla, which has netted around ₹64.75 in India and over ₹106 crore worldwide, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.
