The biopic, directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, delves into the remarkable life of the inventor, with filming set to begin in Coimbatore soon.
R Madhavan is set to star as the legendary inventor and engineer, GD Naidu, in a highly-anticipated biopic directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar. The film, which began production with an international schedule last year, is now gearing up for its Indian schedule in Coimbatore — which is also the birthplace of Naidu — set to begin next week.
Produced by Varghese Moolan Pictures and Tricolour Films, the same team behind Madhavan's National directorial debut, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, this film marks their next venture.
"We weren’t looking to make a biopic. Mr Madhavan comes across many stories, and this was one of them — narrated to him by director Krishna,” said producer Vijay Moolan in a statement. They were actively looking for their next project after Rocketry, for which they won a national award. "We wanted a strong follow-up, and when this story came along, Madhavan really liked it. We also felt it had the potential to be a great film."

GD Naidu, the inventor often hailed as the “Edison of India” was a visionary who made significant contributions to engineering and technology. Vijay believes Naidu’s story deserves to be told on the big screen due to his remarkable personality and unwavering values.
“His resilience, his firm beliefs, and his unwavering stance on his decisions. He was staunchly against bribery, deeply patriotic, and a man of immense strength. He never wavered, never budged, and stood his ground no matter what. His sheer presence was remarkable. It’s not just about the life he led but the kind of person he was — truly unique,” he said in the statement, adding that he believed Madhavan to be the best choice to portray his character.
Vijay continues, "What truly gave us confidence was his vision — both in how he narrated and wrote the story. It was clear that he was visualising it the right way." He notes that while bringing a story of this scale to screen was no small feat, “With Krishna's experience in advertisement films and a highly skilled technical crew—many of whom worked on Rocketry: The Nambi Effect—we are confident he will steer this project successfully. He is the captain of the ship, and we are all here to support him."
Aravind Kamalanathan is the film's cinematographer and creative producer. The film's title will be revealed on February 18, with more details about the cast and crew to follow.
