Raj B Shetty, who recently produced the sleeper Kannada hit 'Su From So', speaks about his relationship with Rakshit and Rishab.
Raj B. Shetty, Rishab Shetty, and Rakshit Shetty, popularly called the “RRR” of Kannada cinema, aren’t just frequent collaborators, but a close-knit creative circle built on trust, admiration, and shared cinematic dreams. Their friendship, as Raj puts it, “exists because of cinema, but is much deeper than that.”
In an exclusive conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Shetty traced the roots of their bond back to Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana (2021), a film he made during the lockdown. “When I completed the film, I showed it to Rishab. The next morning, Rakshit called and said, ‘Can I present this film?’ I told him, ‘If you're ready to take the responsibility, I’m relieved. Please do it.” Raj recalls this as a turning point.
Growing up in Mangalore, far removed from the film industry, Shetty never imagined he'd become part of such a tight creative circle. “I thought I was a filmmaker who didn’t know film,” he says with humility. “Rishab and Rakshit were already in Bangalore and had been part of the industry for years.”
But what makes their dynamic unique is the absence of ego or competition. “There is no competition between the three of us. Even today, after Su From So, Rakshit messaged me saying, ‘I’m hearing great things. Congratulations.’ I think very few relationships in this industry are non-corrupted, and with these people, there’s no competition among us. Nobody’s trying to be first,” Shetty elaborates.
Their relationship goes beyond professional favours; it's rooted in creative honesty. “We are each other’s audiences. I’m a big Rakshit Shetty fan,” he smiles. “So, that’s what our friendship is like," he concludes.
Shetty was last seen in the sleeper Kannada hit Su From So, a social horror comedy that he also produced. Directed by JP Thuminad, the film was released on July 25.
