Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' To Be Released As 'Majadoor' In Hindi
The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial will be released on August 14.
Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's upcoming Tamil film Coolie will be released as Majadoor in Hindi. The makers of the film, Sun Pictures, revealed this in a song announcement video on Monday. The song 'Chikitu', from the film, will be out on June 25.
While fans seemed to enjoy popular composer Anirudh Ravichander's fun presence in the promo, some questioned the title change in Hindi. A few also pointed out that the makers wanted to distinguish themselves from the many Coolie type titles in Hindi cinema, including Amitabh Bachchan's 1983 movie of the same name.
Coolie marks Kanagaraj’s first collaboration with Rajinikanth. The film recently wrapped up its shooting and boasts a stellar cast, including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan and Soubin Shahir. Anirudh Ravichander will compose music for the project, and reports suggest that the film revolves around gold smuggling, with Rajinikanth donning a massy avatar. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Nagarjuna confirmed that he was playing the antagonist in the film. "I had such a liberating experience. I asked him a couple of times if he was sure he wanted me to behave a certain way and if people acted this way, and Lokesh would go, Yes, sir, people are very evil!'" he said.
In an earlier conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, the director revealed what it was like to direct Rajinikanth. “It’s a dream for me… a blessing to work with Kamal sir and Rajini sir,” he said. “I want to show him what a Kamal Haasan fan can do with a Rajinikanth film.” While he’s been an overt Haasan fan, Kanagaraj revealed that he’d grown up with Rajinikanth’s filmography and working with him was a surreal experience.
Lokesh’s previous outing was Leo (2023), an action thriller with Vijay. The director’s earlier credits also include Kamal Haasan’s Vikram (2022), Vijay’s Master (2021) and Karthi’s Kaithi (2019).
