Rajkummar Rao is currently prepping for the Avinash Arun directorial and is expected to undergo 'intense workshops' to play the lawyer.
Actor Rajkummar Rao is ready to step into a new world: that of renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. According to reports, Rao will begin the yet-to-be-titled biopic in October, following a start-to-finish schedule. The film will be directed by Avinash Arun, known for his acclaimed titles like Three of Us and Paatal Lok.
A report in Pinkvilla stated that Rao is currently prepping for the biopic, with the actor expected to undergo "intense workshops" in the coming days to play the lawyer.
Backed by Dinesh Vijan under his banner, Maddock Films, the biopic will focus on the "controversial courtroom proceedings" of the 1993 Bombay Blasts and the 2008 Mumbai Train Attacks. "It is a tribute to one of the greatest public prosecutors of India and the film will retell a few of the biggest courtroom battles on the big screen," the report stated.
This isn't the only biopic that Rao is attached to star in, as the actor will also be seen playing former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film will be produced by Luv Ranjan. With the Nikam biopic wrapping up only in March, the Ganguly feature is likely to begin only after that.
Interestingly, the Nikam biopic was the same project that was once considered by superstar Aamir Khan, who will now start the biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke, regarded as the Father of Indian Cinema, in October. The project will reunite Khan with Rajkumar Hirani after blockbusters like PK and 3 Idiots. The film will be set against the backdrop of the independence struggle and chronicle the extraordinary journey of the artist who birthed the industry.
Rao, meanwhile, was last seen in Maalik. The action-drama was released earlier this month and clashed with Shanaya Kapoor's big screen debut Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. It was Rao's second theatrical release of the year after Bhool Chuk Maaf.
