After several leaks and months of anticipation, the first look of Ramayana was finally launched on Thursday. The thrilling three-minute video asset introduced the world-building of the epic and teased its star cast, giving glimpses of Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and KGF star Yash as Ravana.
The announcement video teased the "war that began to end all wars" as the score by legendary Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman set the riveting tone of the video.
"Worshipped for 5000 years by 2.5 billion people, this is the immortal story of Rama vs Ravana," the text on the video read as the two gear up for an epic battle on the big screen.
"An outcome through a collaboration of some of the world’s best to ensure that Ramayana is presented with the greatest amount of Reverence and Respect. Welcome to the Beginning. Let’s celebrate the IMMORTAL story of Our Truth. Our History," a note from the makers read.
Ramayana, filmed for the IMAX, is directed by Nitesh Tiwari (of Dangal fame) and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and 8-time Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The film also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Ramayana is written by Shridhar Raghavan.
Ramayana Part 1 will release worldwide on Diwali 2026, followed by Part 2 on Diwali 2027. The film is billed as the biggest title coming from Indian cinema, with trade expecting the movie to do unprecedented business if it clicks with the audience.
This will be Kapoor's second film of 2026 after Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Love and War, in which he co-stars with his actor wife Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. It will also be the second release of the year for Yash, who is likely to be seen before Ramayana in Toxic.
