The world of Brahmastra is not over. Actor Ranbir Kapoor on Thursday confirmed that the fantasy action-adventure film is gearing up for its second installment and will hit pre-production soon. Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022) starred Kapoor alongside Alia Bhatt and megastar Amitababh Bachchan.
The film, which grossed over ₹400 cr globally, was directed by Ayan Mukerji, who is currently helming Yash Raj Film's War 2.
During a special media interaction today, Kapoor was asked about the status of Brahmastra 2, which the makers had teased in the post-credit sequence of the film.
"Brahmastra 2 has been a dream Ayan has nurtured for a very long time. Once War 2 releases, he is going to start pre-production on the film," Kapoor said, adding that the film is "definitely happening" even though the makers haven't announced it yet with a visual unit.
"But there will be interesting announcements coming for Brahmastra 2," said Kapoor, who played an orphaned musician with pyrokinetic powers in the film.
Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva was the first installment of a planned trilogy, which featured cameos by superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Nagarjuna. The series is planned to be part of a cinematic universe titled Āstraverse, which would include spin-offs of some of the recurring characters.
Though the cast hasn't been announced for Brahmastra 2, rumours suggest that Deepika Padukone might join the cast in a full-fledged role.
War 2, meanwhile, is gearing for an August release. The film stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR and will be a part of YRF's spy universe, which features films like Salman Khan's Tiger franchise and Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan (2023).
