Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as Beer Biceps, is the YouTuber and podcaster who recently found himself in a high-profile legal storm following a crass joke on Samay Raina’s comedy show, India’s Got Latent. In the latest development, the Supreme Court heard Allahbadia's petition regarding the multiple FIRs filed against him. He named the Central Government, as well as the governments of Maharashtra and Assam, as respondents in the same.

“There is something very dirty in his mind... Why should the court hear this person?” Justice Surya Kant said to Allahbadia’s lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, deeming the YouTuber’s comments to be “perverted.”

However, the lawyer contended that a word, image, or representation cannot be deemed obscene unless it implies moral corruption or has the potential to provoke explicit sexual desire. Furthermore, India’s Got Latent is a paid show with subscriber-only episodes. He believed that an edited version of the same had led to the registration of FIRs.

“He should be ashamed as to what he has done to his parents,” started Justice Kant, as per Bar and Bench. "We are not in ivory towers and we know how he copied an Australian show's content. There are warnings in such shows.”

Allahbadia moved the Supreme Court arguing that the law was being misused to harass him and infringe upon his personal liberty. He also claimed to be facing death threats and acid attack threats, highlighting a disturbing pattern of targeted harassment. He mentioned that individuals had even visited his mother’s clinic, where she practices as a doctor, to issue threats against him.

The Supreme Court granted interim relief to Allahbadia on those counts, given he cooperates with the investigation agencies for the cases filed in Mumbai and Guwahati. He has been barred from leaving the country without permission and has been asked to submit his passport with the Thane police.

"Such behaviour has to be condemned. Just because you are popular, you cannot take society for granted. Is there anyone on earth who would like this language?” asked Justice Kant. "The words you have chosen, parents will be ashamed, sisters will be ashamed. The entire society will feel ashamed. The perversion you and your henchmen have exhibited! We have a judicial system, bound by the rule of law. If there are threats, the law will take its course," he said, according to a report by Live Law.

The YouTuber has been asked to refrain from airing any content in the meantime.

Besides Allahbadia and Samay Raina, others named in the case in Assam are Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Makhija.
