Casting director Shanoo Sharma has always been known for her instinct when it comes to discovering fresh talent, and of her biggest finds was Ranveer Singh. Back in 2010, she introduced him to the world with Band Baaja Baaraat, a Yash Raj Films (YRF) production that marked his debut. Soon enough, Ranveer became one of YRF’s most prominent faces.

However, fifteen years later, Ranveer stepping away from YRF’s talent management division sparked questions about how his long-time collaborators felt about the move. But for Shanoo, it wasn’t something to take personally.

“It didn’t hurt that he left,” she said in an exclusive conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, addressing the move for the first time. “He’s going ahead with his life, I wish him all the best. There’s a reason why he must be going, there’s a reason why the production house is okay with him going.”

Her tone is calm, reflective, and rooted in the nature of how professional journeys evolve. “I feel things work, and then they fade, and then they start to work again, and the cycle goes on,” she added.

Ranveer’s exit, according to Sharma, doesn’t carry any bitterness. “I don’t think there’s any bad blood as such. He needed to move, so he did,” she said.

For Sharma, the bond clearly goes beyond the casting room. “He’s my best friend as well, so there’s nothing difficult on that front,” she added with a smile.

Ranveer’s exit may mark a turning point, but it’s hardly the end of the road for either party. For Sharma, who continues to be one of the most influential gatekeepers of new talent in the Hindi film industry, and for Singh, who is reportedly exploring new management and ventures, this shift feels more like the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another.
