Actor and producer Ravi Mohan on Saturday announced that he will step away from acting until his divorce proceedings are completed, citing emotional distress, cyberbullying and the ongoing turmoil in his personal life as reasons behind the decision.
Addressing the media at his office, Ravi said he has struggled to focus on work amid the current circumstances and is unable to continue dealing with what he described as constant public scrutiny and humiliation.
"Whenever I get my divorce and my life becomes normal again, whenever this cyberbullying stops, I will return. I see everything. I know everything that is happening. For 23 years, I have worked day and night. 95 per cent of my films have been successful. It feels strange that I even have to say this myself, but I have earned everything through hard work," he said.
The actor’s announcement comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding his marital discord with estranged wife Aarti Ravi. Their divorce proceedings, which began last year, have repeatedly made headlines, especially after Ravi’s public appearances with singer Keneeshaa sparked widespread speculation and online conversations.
Expressing frustration over the criticism directed at him, Ravi said, "Many people are trying to provoke me. To all of them, I want to say one thing: this is my office, come directly. Don’t do anything indirectly."
He also reflected on his silence over the years and how it affected him emotionally. "My mistake was staying silent for all these years. I tolerated things for too long," he said, while stressing that his support for women has always reflected in both his personal beliefs and films.
Ravi also spoke about the cyberbullying Keneesha faced, questioning the attacks directed at her. "You all destroyed a girl through cyberbullying. I never held interviews about it, and wherever she is, I only wish her well. That’s all."
Appealing for privacy and time, Ravi said he hopes to return to films once his personal life stabilises. On the work front, he was last seen in Sudha Kongara's Parasakthi, with films like Bro Code and Genie in the pipeline.
