The actor-producer claims the beverage company filed a case against his film’s title after he declined to promote their product. The Delhi High Court has since restrained his studio from using the 'Bro Code' name for promotional purposes.
Actor-producer Ravi Mohan has claimed that the ongoing trademark dispute over his upcoming film Bro Code began after he refused a proposal from the beverage company to feature their product in the film.
The film, directed by Dikkiloona filmmaker Karthik Yogi, stars SJ Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, and Shraddha Srinath alongside Ravi Mohan, who is also producing it under his newly launched banner, Ravi Mohan Studios.
In a statement issued by his team, Ravi alleged that representatives from the alcoholic beverage brand approached him with an offer to promote their drink in Bro Code, which he declined “as it would set a wrong example.” His statement further noted that Ravi Mohan Studios had already registered the title Bro Code and its artistic work under the entertainment category before the legal challenge arose.
According to Ravi, the beverage company subsequently filed a case in the Delhi High Court as retaliation. “The beverage company has registered a case in Delhi against the title and has not challenged the Madras High Court verdict so far,” his statement read, adding that the Madras High Court continues to uphold his studio’s rights over the title. The interim order in his favour, preventing interference from the company, has been extended until November 21, 2025.
He also accused the beverage company of leveraging the legal dispute for publicity, saying, “The company is planning to launch their brand in Tamil Nadu, so they have started this stunt to push the brand in TN.”
However, in a recent development, the Delhi High Court has issued an order restraining Ravi Mohan Studios from using the title Bro Code for promotional purposes. The order came in response to a trademark infringement suit filed by IndoBevs, which owns the Bro Code trademark for its line of alcoholic and ready-to-drink beverages. The court observed that the film’s title is identical to the registered mark and could mislead consumers into assuming an association with the brand.
Bro Code is slated for a theatrical release next year and also features Sri Gouri Priya, Malavika Manoj, Upendra Limaye, and Aishwarya Raj in key roles. A recently released promo has received strong response online.
The film’s technical crew includes composer Harshavardhan Rameshwar (Animal, Arjun Reddy), cinematographer Kalaiselvan Sivaji (Por Thozhil), and editor Pradeep E. Ragav. Costume designer Ruchi Munoth, art director Rajesh A., and stunt choreographer Mahesh Mathew complete the team.
