Netflix has announced the premiere of Saare Jahan Se Accha, a period espionage thriller set in the politically fraught 1970s, with Pratik Gandhi leading the cast as an Indian intelligence officer navigating a deadly covert mission. The series will debut globally on August 13.

Created by Gaurav Shukla and produced by Bombay Fables, Saare Jahan Se Accha follows intelligence officer Vishnu Shankar (played by Gandhi), who is entrusted with the high-risk task of sabotaging an emerging nuclear threat. Set against the Cold War backdrop, the show explores the shadowy world of spies where every second matters and each decision could shift the course of history.

The ensemble cast includes Sunny Hinduja, Suhail Nayyar, Kritika Kamra, Tillotama Shome, Rajat Kapoor, and Anup Soni. Directed by Sumit Purohit and creatively led by Bhavesh Mandalia, the series aims to blend tense action with moral complexity, examining the emotional toll of a life lived in secrecy and service.

Pratik Gandhi, best known for his breakout role in Scam 1992, described his latest role as “one of the most challenging” of his career. “With Saare Jahan Se Accha, we’ve built a world that’s urgent, intense, intimidating, and full of quiet tension,” he said in a statement. “Playing Vishnu Shankar, someone who walks the tightrope between duty and morality, was incredibly demanding.”

More than just a spy thriller, the series serves as a tribute to India’s intelligence community—professionals who work behind the scenes to protect national interests, often without recognition or reward. According to the creators, the series honours the courage and clarity of those whose victories are invisible but invaluable.

Saare Jahan Se Accha is written by a team including Bhavesh Mandalia, Meghna Srivastava, Abhijeet Khuman, and others, and is expected to resonate with viewers interested in grounded, character-driven thrillers.

The series will be available exclusively on Netflix starting August 13.
