Mohit Suri's 'Saiyaara' recorded a domestic first weekend of around ₹83 crores, surpassing all previous record holders in the genre.
Filmmaker Mohit Suri's Saiyaara has done the unthinkable. The movie, led by Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has not only emerged as the biggest box-office debut for a film headlined by newcomers, but also recorded the highest first weekend for a romantic drama ever.
Backed by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara beat all industry projections when it opened on Friday to a whopping ₹22 crores India nett, toppling heavyweights in the genre, including Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani's Kabir Singh (₹20.21 crore) as well as romantic comedies like Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (₹19 crore) and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, which had collected ₹ 15 crore in 2023.
With a historic Friday and a good reception, Saiyaara recorded a fantastic Saturday, netting ₹26.25 crore. But the biggest day was yet to come as the film went on an overdrive on Sunday, where it did what no one expected it to: recording a single-day collection nearing ₹40 crore.

The film is showing solid holds on Monday as well, with strong bookings across the board. Industry projections are estimating the fourth day to be in the range of ₹15 crore, and if it goes higher, then the film might cross ₹100 crore all India nett by Monday itself. Saiyaara is unstoppable on the worldwide front as well, with three-day collections over ₹110 crore.
The film will now have a free run till August 1, when two new Hindi films will clash at the box office. Ajay Devgn-led comedy Son of Sardaar 2 (pushed from its original July 25 release) and Karan Johar-backed Dhadak 2. The other big releases of the month will be War 2 and Coolie, and Saiyaara will comfortably enjoy its run till then.
