Shine Tom Chacko recently spoke at length about his accident in which the actor lost his father, and his journey towards de-addiction. He said, “Now, I can say my addiction is in going to rehab. I started going to rehab during the shoot of my upcoming film Pinnale. My father, too, was very happy to see me making these steps towards de-addiction, and we were on a drive to Bengaluru to complete the rehabilitation process when the accident took place.” The accident occurred on June 6.

Speaking about the accident, he told Cue Studio, “I’m not sure if it’s withdrawal symptoms, but ever since I quit (smoking and drug use), I developed the habit of constantly eating biscuits. Earlier, I would have smoked during breaks, but now I have replaced that with biscuits. I remember waking up in the middle of the night to ask my dad for biscuits. The next thing I remember is seeing him after the accident. He did not communicate with us after that.”

Shine also spoke in length about overcoming all his issues. He said, “I think I’m able to overcome my addiction because at the core, my most basic addiction is cinema. In that journey, other addictions, be it substance, people or situations, the most basic instinct is to perform and entertain people. I would continue to do that even if I’m starving or fully fed. If not for that, it may have been impossible to overcome the addiction to such substances.”

Among the many phone calls that came his way on his way towards recovery, he singled out a reassuring call from actor Mammootty, which gave him the confidence to move on. He mentioned that it happened when Ramesh Pisharody and Kunchacko Boban visited the hospital to visit him.

Shine said, “Mammukka himself is going through a tough period, but he found time to call me during this crisis of mine. Mammukka told me that he doesn’t see me as a problematic child; he only felt that I was mischievous. He then went ahead to ask me to remove all those mischievous attitudes from my lifestyle, and he told me that we would soon do movies again. I told him that I was waiting to work with him again too.”

Shine Tom Chacko, mostly known for his roles in Malayalam and Tamil films, was last seen in Good Bad Ugly (2025) in Tamil and Alappuzha Gymkhana (2025) in Malayalam. The actor, too, was injured and suffered fractures during the accident.

As reported earlier this year, the actor was accused of consuming drugs and misbehaving with a female co-star on a film set. The incident gained attention when actor Vincy Aloshious shared her harrowing experience without naming the accused. However, she later took a significant step by filing formal complaints with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the film and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), directly naming Chacko.
