Shweta Tripathi will reprise her role of Golu Gupta in the film version of the popular Prime Video series 'Mirzapur'.
Actor Shweta Tripathi has officially commenced shooting for the highly anticipated Mirzapur: The Film. The upcoming feature, based on the popular Prime Video series Mirzapur, is written by Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmmeet Singh.
In the film, Tripathi will reprise her role as Gajgamini “Golu” Gupta. The actor was thrilled to shoot for the film in Varanasi, which has been a landmark city for her career, as her breakout feature Masaan was also filmed there.
"Golu is not just a character for me; she has been a companion, a part of my life for so many years. To see her journey unfold on the big screen is overwhelming and surreal. Varanasi is like my second home; it is so special because so many of my milestones are connected to this city. From Masaan to Mirzapur seasons 1 and 2, from Escape Live to Kalkoot, every project here has given me something unforgettable," the actor said in a statement.
Mirzapur: The Film was announced last year. The project will mark the return of Pankaj Tripathi in his fan favourite character, Kaleen Bhaiya and also bring back Ali Fazal (as Guddu Pandit) and Divyenndu, who played the role of Munna Tripathi. Though his character was killed in season two, the makers teased that Munna would make a comeback in the film.
The film will also star Abhishek Banerjee and Jitendra Kumar, who is replacing actor Vikrant Massey as Bablu Pandit. The crime thriller is backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment. The makers had previously announced a 2026 release date for the film, but there has been no update on it since.
The first season of Mirzapur was released in November 2018 to acclaim, followed by an equally popular second season in October 2020. The third season of the show was released in July 2024.
