Actor Siddharth has come on board to star in Unaccustomed Earth, the Netflix series based on Jhumpa Lahiri’s award-winning collection of short stories. The actor, known for films like Rang De Basanti and Bommarillu, will co-star alongside Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) in the eight-episode series.

John Wells (The Pitt) and 3 Body Problem’s Madhuri Shekar will adapt the beloved text for the screen. Filmmaker Ritesh Batra will executive produce and direct the first two of the eight episodes, which also stars Indraneil Sengupta, Adi Roy, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig, and Sarayu Blue.

Inspired by the internationally beloved bestseller of the same name, Unaccustomed Earth is billed as an "epic, soapy drama" about an immigrant community navigating love, desire, and belonging with Pinto at the center as Parul Chaudhury.

"When a star-crossed romance between a devoted wife and her long-lost love comes to light, a scandalous affair is born, and new battle lines are drawn in the elite, insular Indian American community of Cambridge, Massachusetts," the synopsis read.

On the show, Siddharth will play Amit Mukherjee — a warm-hearted Bengali American man, born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts — who comes across Pinto’s character’s star-crossed love. According to the streamer, Siddharth's character is dependable in moments of need but struggles to find stability in work or love.

"Just as his latest relationship begins to feel promising, his carefully balanced world unravels with the unexpected return of his long-lost love," the note read.

Earlier this year, Siddharth starred in Test, the Tamil sports psychological thriller about three people whose lives converge at a cricket match. The film also starred R Madhavan, Nayanthara, Siddharth and Meera Jasmine. Following this, the actor was then seen in filmmaker Sri Ganesh's coming-of-age drama film 3BHK. The film, which opened to positive reviews in July, chronicled the prolonged struggles of a family that wants to buy a three-bedroom house while dealing with their personal problems.
