Mandhana’s Instagram announcement ended weeks of speculation, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirming the couple will wed on November 23.
Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana confirmed her engagement to music composer Palash Muchhal on Thursday with a light-hearted Instagram video featuring some of her closest teammates. The clip, set to the song 'Samjho Ho Hi Gaya' from Lage Raho Munna Bhai, shows Mandhana dancing along with Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy before she quietly reveals her engagement ring in the final frame. The moment immediately ended weeks of speculation and quickly went viral.
Muchhal had hinted at a wedding recently during an event at the State Press Club in Indore, calling Mandhana the soon-to-be “daughter-in-law of Indore,” though he stopped short of confirming anything outright. The couple had otherwise kept their relationship private, making Thursday’s announcement a rare glimpse into their personal lives.
While the Instagram video did not mention any wedding details, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the date in his congratulatory message to the couple. In a note wishing them “trust, love and harmony” in their life together, he also shared that the wedding is set for November 23, 2025. He added that Mandhana’s “cover drive” and Muchhal’s “musical symphony” would make for a fitting partnership.
The engagement comes on the heels of a historic month for Mandhana. She was one of the standout performers in India’s maiden Women’s ODI World Cup triumph in Navi Mumbai, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 434 runs in nine innings. Her form and experience were central to India’s campaign, which ended with a memorable win over South Africa in the final.
Muchhal has been active in the music industry for several years, working across film songs and independent releases. He’s collaborated often with his sister, singer Palak Muchhal, and has built a steady career with his mix of film tracks, background scores and singles.
Since the announcement, wishes have poured in from teammates, former players, fans and members of the film and music community.
