Sooraj Barjatya Confirms His Next With Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari
Ayushmann Khurrana is likely to be seen as the new 'Prem'-- a character name that Sooraj Barjatya has used in almost all his films.
Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya has confirmed the cast of his upcoming film: actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari. The director said the duo is set to star in a Mumbai-set film, as was long speculated.
There were reports that in Barjatya's next, Khurrana will be the new 'Prem'— a name that the filmmaker has used in all his films starring Salman Khan, including Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, as well as Shahid Kapoor-starrer Vivah.
"We're shooting the film with them (Khurrana and Sharvari) in Mumbai; it's a story set in Mumbai. He is a dedicated and fine actor. It's all about getting the right story, making it look real, and casting it with the right actors. Besides them, we've more people in the cast, like how we have in all my films," the filmmaker told PTI.
Barjatya's last directorial was the 2022 adventure drama Uunchai, for which he had won the National Film Award for Best Direction. The filmmaker said he was "nervous" to begin filming his upcoming feature, as he has always been at the start of any project.
"This has been there even when I made my first film, Maine Pyaar Kiya, the nervousness is still the same. As a creator, it's not about how much box office (numbers) it will do, it's about whether you're able to connect or not, with that thought or scene. For me, whether it's a film or a show, everyone should feel that the world that I’m creating is honest, it shouldn't look fake," the filmmaker added.
Both Khurrana and Sharvari will have big screen releases this year, with the former seeing a grand Diwali opening with his horror comedy Thama and the latter arriving on Christmas with her Spy Universe film Alpha, co-starring Alia Bhatt.
