‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Box-Office: CBFC Clears Tom Holland Film With Modifications As It Eyes ₹50 Crore Opening

Spidey is casting a record-breaking web in India. Days before its grand theatrical debut, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already positioned to make box-office history, with opening-day projections pacing toward a massive ₹50 crore-plus start.

Pre-sales for the Tom Holland-starrer have been so exceptional that trade tracking suggests the film could challenge the biggest Hollywood opening day in India—a record held by Avengers: Endgame at ₹53 crore net. While dethroning Endgame remains a high bar, Brand New Day will cleanly surpass Avatar: The Way of Water’s ₹40.50 crore net opening day.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film is also set to deliver the highest opening weekend for any Hollywood release in Indian history. Supported by a 4-day extended weekend beginning Thursday, July 30, Brand New Day is projected to clear ₹225 crore gross, comfortably pacing ahead of Endgame’s ₹187 crore gross 3-day weekend benchmark.

Beyond its opening weekend, two monumental box-office milestones remain firmly within the film’s sightlines: the highest first-week collection for a non-Indian release and becoming the first Hollywood film to enter the ₹500 crore gross club in India.

Avengers: Endgame currently holds the first-week gross record at ₹315 crore (around ₹260 crore net)—a figure Spider-Man: Brand New Day could comfortably surpass.

Should reviews and audience reception lean heavily in its favor, the film could go on to eclipse the lifetime earnings of Avatar: The Way of Water (₹477.50 crore gross and ₹378 crore net) to emerge as the highest-grossing non-Indian film in Indian box-office history, while setting a new precedent as the first foreign title to cross the ₹500 crore benchmark.

Gearing up for its July 30 rollout, the film has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA 13+ rating following some modifications. The censor board mandated the removal of two kissing scenes totaling 8 seconds, along with muting select profanities in the English soundtrack and subtitles to align the dialogue with teenage audiences.
