'Super Subbu' Trailer: Sundeep Kishan Is The Wrong Teacher In Charge Of The Right Subject

In the hilarious new trailer of Super Subbu, Netflix’s first Telugu Original series, we see a fish-out-of-water comedy about a serious matter. Sundeep Kishan plays Super Subbu and not-so-accidentally, the comedy is set in a village named Maakipur. Subbu appears to be a city boy, born and raised, who has to shift to this peculiar village. Peculiar why? Because the village has an average ratio of three children per couple. It becomes this temp teacher’s job to serve as their SEO or Sex Education Officer.

‘Right Subject but the Wrong Teacher’ is how the show describes this character. We also learn that Subbu’s father is a teacher too, but of a different, stricter kind. Played by Murali Sharma, he could be playing a math teacher is total contrast to his son.

What adds to the comedy is how Subbu could even be a virgin, entrusted with the task of teaching sex education. Consent appears to be a major theme as well, explored with both seriousness and lightness in the series. The social comedy will premiere on Netflix on July 2.

Speaking at the trailer launch, director Mallik Ram spoke of how he got the idea for the show several years ago. He said it took over four years for the show to get to this final stage.

Monika Shergill of Netflix India called the series “all heart and comedy,” describing the show as a comedy about a “boy who does not want to be in a village, stuck in a village that does not want him.”

Sundeep Kishan, playing the titular lead of Super Subbu, said, “The one quality I like most about my character is how he is always adaptable. He’s willing to learn and change himself."

As reported earlier, Super Subbu is centered around the adventures of an inexperienced sex education officer and also stars Mithila Palkar. The series is created and directed by Ram, who had earlier made Tillu Square.

The cast also features Getup Srinu, Maanasa Choudhary, Jeevan and Brahmanandam.
