Popular Tamil and Telugu actor Srikanth was brought in for questioning at the Nungambakkam police station in Chennai
Popular Tamil and Telugu actor Srikanth was brought in for questioning at the Nungambakkam police station in Chennai, on drug abuse charges on Monday. Reportedly, the actor's blood samples were collected and sent for testing after a detailed interrogation. The results of the tests will determine the legal course of action against the actor. Srikanth was called in to meet the cops on suspicion of his links with former AIADMK functionary Prasad, who had been arrested earlier for drug trafficking.
An investigation is currently underway to find if there are any more Tamil actors are involved, and reports say that this is part of a bigger crackdown on drug use in the south Indian film industry. Srikanth and his team haven’t made any official comment yet about the drug allegations, and the actor has not been formally charged yet. More details are awaited on this developing case.
Srikanth began his acting journey with the television serial Jannal – Marabu Kavithaigal directed by K. Balachander in 1999, before debuting in Tamil cinema with the 2002 romance-drama Roja Kootam. He is known for his roles in films such as as Manasellam, Parthiban Kanavu and Nanban. In 2023, he acted in Telugu with Okariku Okaru. He was last seen in the film Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal that released earlier this year.
Earlier in 2025, two rising Malayalam film directors, Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamsa, were arrested after authorities found a small quantity of suspected "hybrid ganja" in their possession during a raid on a Kochi apartment. The arrests came as Kerala’s Excise Department intensified a sweeping anti-drug campaign within the Malayalam film industry. Separately, actors Shine Tom Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi also appeared before Excise officials in connection with a separate drug seizure. The broader crackdown has reignited debate about drug use within Kerala’s thriving film community.
