Actor-producer Ajay Devgn on Wednesday announced 

, a new thriller film created using generative AI technology. Purportedly inspired by real events, the film is scheduled for release on April 2, 2026.

Sharing the first-look poster on social media, Devgn wrote, “Everyone has a breaking point, His just went global. #HappyBirthdayJoshi Inspired by true events. Releasing on 2nd April.” The intriguing poster features a floppy disk bearing the film's title. The concept of something called the 'Joshi worm' is teased in the poster.

 is directed by Anshul Kumar Sharma and produced by Ajay Devgn along with Danish Devgn. The script has been written by Vatsal Sheth, who famously appeared alongside Devgn in the 2004 film Taarzan: The Wonder Car. Further details about the cast and storyline have not yet been disclosed.

The film marks Devgn’s second AI-led project following the announcement of Bal Tanhaji. The upcoming film is set within the ‘Unsung Warriors’ universe created by Devgn and focuses on the early life of Maratha military leader Tanaji Malusare, charting his journey from childhood to becoming a key historical figure. The release of the much-anticipated Malayalam espionage thriller 

 has been postponed, its makers announced. An official statement issued by Anto Joseph Film Company on March 31 confirmed that the film will no longer hit theatres on its previously scheduled date of April 23, 2026.

Citing “unforeseen circumstances,” the producers said the decision was made to ensure the film meets the highest quality standards before release. They assured audiences that efforts are underway to complete final preparations.

The new release date is set to be unveiled on April 1, 2026, at 6:00 PM through the official social media handles of the film’s lead stars, Mammootty and Mohanlal. 

The statement read, "We are working tirelessly to bring 'Patriot' to your screens at its highest quality. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, the release of the film, which was previously set for April 23, is inevitably being postponed by a few days. The new release date for the film will be shared tomorrow at 6:00 PM through the official social media pages of our dear Mammukka (Mammootty) and Lalettan (Mohanlal). We look forward to your continued love and support."

The postponement follows ongoing discussions between the producers and theatre associations over revenue-sharing terms, which had cast uncertainty over the original release plan. Anto Joseph Film Company also expressed gratitude for the continued support from audiences and sought patience as the team finalises arrangements for the film’s release.

Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith was arrested on Tuesday (March 31) in connection with an attempted sexual assault case. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, 

, the action follows a complaint by a female actor, who alleged that Ranjith attempted to sexually assault her during the shooting of a film. In her statement, the actor claimed that the director had asked her to come to a caravan on set, where the alleged incident took place.

Ranjith is regarded as a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema. He is known for directing acclaimed films like 

, winning three National Awards in his career. 

As per reports, Ranjith was taken into custody on Tuesday night after the Thodupuzha police intercepted his car, acting on inputs that he might attempt to evade arrest. He was admitted to a General Hospital shortly after due to health concerns and was discharged the next morning. Around 7am on Wednesday, he was brought to the North Women’s Police Station, where his arrest was formally recorded. He was subsequently produced before a magistrate at a residence in Thrippunithura and remanded to 14 days in custody, after which he was shifted to Ernakulam sub-jail.

The filmmaker has faced prior allegations as well. His name had surfaced in the aftermath of disclosures linked to the Justice K Hema Committee report, which documented instances of abuse in the Malayalam film industry. In 2024, a separate complaint was filed by a Bengali actress with the Kochi City Police Commissioner via email. She alleged that Ranjith had touched her inappropriately with sexual intent after inviting her to act in the film Paleri Manikyam in 2009.

The Kerala High Court had earlier closed his anticipatory bail plea in the 2009 case after police informed the court that they were considering treating the offence as bailable.

Given SKN’s industry standing, the comment was quickly taken at face value, fuelling speculation and drawing a swift reaction from fans. In an environment where release dates are tightly managed and often signal broader distribution strategies, even an offhand remark can carry disproportionate weight.

SKN later issued a clarification, attributing the error to a misunderstanding amid the noise of the event. According to his account, writer and co-producer Sai Rajesh had mentioned seeing online speculation about a possible new date for

 until an official confirmation was made. SKN said he misheard this as confirmation that the June 26 date had already been locked.

However, according to reports, the makers have scrapped the schedule entirely keeping the crew’s safety as their priority. 

According to a report in Mid-Day, the Dubai leg had been finalised months in advance, with all necessary permissions secured. “The team had procured the required approvals to shoot in Dubai. It was designed as a week-long schedule. However, given the dynamic situation in the region, the makers chose not to take any risks with the safety of the cast and crew,” a source told the publication. 

The sequence has now been relocated to Mumbai, where it will be filmed at a Vile Parle studio. The production design team has recreated a desert environment indoors to match the original scale. The source added, “They’ve gone all out to replicate the setting. This also gives the team greater control over action choreography and lighting conditions. The sequence opens with a chase and builds into an intense combat segment.”

Matka King, the forthcoming original series starring Vijay Varma, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 17 April, the platform confirmed on Sunday, releasing a teaser to coincide with the actor’s 40th birthday.

Set in Bombay in the 1960s, the series follows the fictional rise of Brij Bhatti, a cotton trader who devises a new gambling system — “matka” — transforming what begins as a niche pastime into a mass phenomenon. The premise situates personal ambition within a shifting urban landscape, where informal economies and social mobility intersect.

The show is created and written by Abhay Koranne and directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, whose previous work has often drawn from marginalised lives and regional histories. Here, the narrative expands into a more expansive, period setting: crowded chawls, trading hubs and the evolving hierarchies of a city in transition.

Varma’s Bhatti is positioned as both architect and casualty of the system he builds, as the stakes of his enterprise grow beyond individual control. The series’ logline emphasises themes of legitimacy and belonging, framing the protagonist’s ascent as both aspirational and precarious.

The ensemble cast includes Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav and Gulshan Grover, alongside a larger supporting lineup. Production is led by Siddharth Roy Kapur under Roy Kapur Films, in collaboration with Aatpat and SMR Productions.

This will be Manjule's first directorial since his 2022 feature

Produced by RK Duggal and Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under RKD Studios, and shaped under the supervision of Prasanth Varma as showrunner with Puja Kolluru directing, the film is steadily rising as one of the most ambitious and awaited mythological ventures in Indian cinema.

The team has wrapped 100 days of shooting, while the final 40-day schedule has commenced in Hyderabad. Akshaye Khanna has also completed filming for his pivotal role as Shukracharya. "Bhoomi Shetty plays the titular lead in the movie, and the first-look poster presented her in a fierce, divine form. Akshaye Khanna’s Tollywood debut as Shukracharya has generated tremendous buzz, with his first look also receiving strong praise across social media. Now that he has wrapped his portions, anticipation surrounding his role and its impact on the PVCU has only intensified," a press note read.

The music is by Smaran Sai, cinematography by Suresh Ragutu, and production design by Sri Nagendra Tangala. 

Meanwhile, Varma, known for the popular Telugu film 

 (2024), will return with another mythological film, centred around the Hindu god. The film is 

, starring Rishab Shetty. Varma has expressed that it has been a dream project for him. “The film is not just about the undying spirit of devotion and courage that Lord Hanuman embodies, but also a reminder that strength guided by faith can move mountains," he has said about the film.
