Tovino Thomas to Star in and Produce Rural Drama ‘Munpe’

Malayalam actor and star Tovino Thomas shared a post on his various social media platforms announcing that he will both be starring in and producing a film titled Munpe, which means 'before'. It is being directed by Saiju Sreedharan and the script is written by Tina Thomas. Presented by Panorama Studios, the film will be bankrolled by Theatre Of Dreams and Tovino Thomas Productions.

Along with the post, we wrote, “A new journey begins! Here’s to new beginnings, beautiful moments and a story waiting to unfold.” A poster of the film shows only a back shot of Tovino as he looks away. He is sporting a shirt and a veshti in it. The backdrop of the film’s poster appears to be a hilly terrain, suggesting a rural mood. More details of the cast and crew will follow. 

Saiju Sreedharan is an award-winning editor who also directed the Manju Warrier starrer Footage. It was a found footage film, only the second in Malayalam. Tovino was also seen in Athiradi, a hit film starring Basil Joseph, earlier this year.

Most recently, Tovino was seen in a wrap up party of his film with Nazriya. In a surprise poster and title release that was unprecedented for Malayalam cinema, the stars of Gracias El Clásico, launched the film’s poster by unravelling it during a football game in Barcelona. According to reports, both Tovino Thomas and Nazriya Nazim, unfurled the poster during one of world football’s most watched rivalries, El Clásico, between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The announcement was made live on several social media handles, to coincide with the high-profile La Liga fixture.

The movie is being directed by Muhsin Parari who had last directed KL10 Patthu. He had also written Tovino’s action-comedy Thallumaala. The film’s football theme will continue with the writing credits being shared by Zakariya Mohammed, who had written and directed the football-based drama, Sudani From Nigeria.
