The 'Virus' writer reunites with Tovino Thomas for a new project co-written with Zakariya, marking Nazriya Nazim’s return to the big screen
Malayalam cinema favourites Tovino Thomas and Nazriya Nazim are set to share the screen in filmmaker Muhsin Parari’s next project, adding to the growing buzz around the upcoming film.
Parari, known for writing Virus and Thallumaala, hinting at the upcoming project by sharing a casting call on Instagram, inviting aspiring actors to audition. The film, which is yet to be officially titled, is being written by Parari in collaboration with filmmaker Zakariya, who previously directed Sudani from Nigeria and Halal Love Story.
This marks a creative reunion between Parari and Tovino, who previously collaborated on Thallumaala. For Nazriya, the film will be another big-screen outing after her 2024 release Sookshmadarshini, which also starred Basil Joseph. She is also set to appear in the upcoming streaming series The Madras Mystery – Fall of a Superstar, expanding her presence beyond cinema.
Tovino, meanwhile, continues to be one of Malayalam cinema’s busiest stars. He recently headlined L2: Empuraan and Narivetta, and made a cameo appearance in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. His pairing with Nazriya is likely to generate strong interest, given their individual popularity and the anticipation surrounding Parari’s writing.
The film is currently in pre-production, with casting underway and more details expected to emerge in the coming months. The combination of Parari’s socially aware storytelling and Zakariya’s grounded, humanistic approach is being seen as a promising collaboration in Malayalam cinema’s evolving landscape.
Industry watchers are particularly interested to see how the film positions its two leads, with Nazriya known for her vibrant on-screen presence and Tovino for his versatility across action, drama and romance. A formal announcement, including the title and additional cast, is expected soon.
In another recent development, the makers of Lokah shared posters of the characters Michael and Charlie, played by Tovino and Dulquer Salmaan respectively. This fueled speculation on social media about a team-up between the two stars in the next instalment.
