Veteran Kannada Actor Dinesh Mangaluru Passes Away At 55

Veteran Kannada actor and art director Dinesh Mangaluru, widely known for his memorable role as the Bombay Don in Yash’s KGF, passed away in the early hours of Monday, August 25. According to reports, the actor breathed his last at 3:30 am at his residence in Kundapura, Udupi district in Karnataka.

Dinesh, often fondly called “Mangaluru Dinesh,” had carved a niche for himself in Sandalwood through his distinct screen presence, particularly in supporting and negative roles. Born in Kundapura, Udupi, Dinesh spent much of his life in Bengaluru while working in the Kannada film industry. Before stepping into acting, he began his career as an art director, contributing to several Kannada films before transitioning in front of the camera — a move that proved to be the turning point in his journey.

His role in KGF earned him wide recognition across audiences, but his filmography extended far beyond the blockbuster. He featured in notable films such as Kichcha, Kirik Party, Rikki, Harikathe Alla Girikathe, and Ulidavaru Kandanthe. Industry peers frequently remembered him not just for his professionalism, but also for his warmth and jovial nature on set.

Tributes poured in soon after the news of his passing. Actor Sangeetha Bhat recalled their long conversations on set, writing on Instagram, “You will be terribly missed. I remember seeing you stand strong even through your low health days during shoots, still delivering your roles so flawlessly. You would check on me during my difficult days and never failed to make me smile with your sweetest jokes. Our long, deep conversations on set about your old art direction days and the wonderful stories you shared are memories I will always treasure. Gone too soon, too far."

The family announced that his mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at his residence in Laggere, Bengaluru, from 8 am on Tuesday, where friends, fans, and colleagues are expected to gather to pay their last respects.
