Legal issues surrounding the sale of OTT rights has thrown the release of Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2, the much-anticipated Vikram-starrer, into chaos. The film’s global release, slated for March 27, ran into hot water, with early shows being cancelled due to the dispute.

The producer HR Pictures was taken to court by B4U Entertainment for a violation of the terms of contract due to their failure to ensure the sale of OTT rights before the announcement of the release date. Subsequently, the Delhi High Court placed a four week interim stay on the release of the movie and also asked the producer to deposit a sum of ₹7 crores in addition to all the documents related to the case within 48 hours.

Promotions for the movie have been taking place across South India over the past few weeks, raising expectations among fans. Many arrived at the theaters this morning only to be informed of cancelled shows and uncertainty around the release.

With the stay order in place, the film’s release could be potentially delayed for weeks. To prevent such a scenario, the Tamil Film Producers Council and Distributors Association are mediating terms for the release of the movie on the date originally planned, with shows to start this evening if the talks prove successful.

The movie also stars S J Suryah, Dushara Vijayan and Siddique, with music by G V Prakash Kumar. The title also teases a prequel.
