James Cameron’s third instalment in the 'Avatar' saga hits cinemas in India on December 19, in six languages, with the trailer teasing an epic continuation of the Sully family’s story
James Cameron’s vast and visually arresting Avatar universe is set to return to the big screen with its most ambitious chapter yet. Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third instalment in the record-breaking sci-fi saga, will release in cinemas across India on 19 December 2025. The film will be made available in six languages — English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada — reinforcing its position as one of the most widely accessible Hollywood releases in the country to date.
The newly-released trailer offers a dramatic preview of what’s to come, reuniting audiences with former Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and their family as they grapple with mounting threats to their home planet, Pandora. The visuals are once again sweeping and meticulously detailed, hinting at new biomes, expanded world-building, and a darker, more emotionally charged narrative.
The film is written by James Cameron alongside long-time collaborators Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who also share story credit with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. The sprawling ensemble cast includes returning names such as Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, as well as new additions to the universe: Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet, who made her franchise debut in The Way of Water.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the trailer teases a story that leans deeper into the political and spiritual tensions of Pandora. This instalment appears to focus on the rising costs of war, the burden of legacy, and the intimate stakes faced by the Sully family as they fight to protect their world and each other.
Avatar: Fire and Ash follows the enormous global success of its predecessors. The original Avatar (2009) still holds the title of highest-grossing film of all time, and 2022’s The Way of Water earned more than $2.3 billion worldwide.
The trailer is now available in six Indian languages. Avatar: Fire and Ash releases in Indian cinemas on 19 December 2025.
