A silent Instagram post featuring the Avengers logo has sent Marvel fans into overdrive, with theories swirling about Deadpool’s possible appearance in 'Avengers: Doomsday'
Ryan Reynolds has set the Marvel fandom alight with a single image of the Avengers logo posted to Instagram without a caption. The Deadpool star offered no explanation, prompting a frenzy of speculation that his irreverent antihero could join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Doomsday, due for release in 2026.
Fans wasted no time in decoding the tease. “Alright, what are you up to?” asked one, while another pleaded, “Don’t give me hope.” Others treated it as confirmation: “If you are saying what I think you’re saying, I’m actually gonna scream.”
Reynolds has previously played down the idea. In a past interview with Time, he joked that making Deadpool an Avenger or X-Man would be “wish fulfilment” and therefore “the end” for the character. Still, the actor’s social media history is littered with tongue-in-cheek reveals that later proved accurate.
Speculation has also extended to Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman, who has been similarly evasive about whether Wolverine will appear in Doomsday. “I really can’t say much,” he told reporters, before quipping about “dominating and destroying every other character.” Jackman has clarified that his remarks were made in jest but MCU fans have been keeping their fingers crossed.
Marvel Studios has not commented on Reynolds’ post yet. In May, Disney confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday had been pushed back from 1 May 2026 to 18 December 2026, as part of a wider reshuffle of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s release schedule. Its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, has also been delayed by seven months, to 17 December 2027.
Whether Reynolds’ tease is genuine, a marketing ploy, or simply a bit of playful trolling remains to be seen. For now, the possibility of Deadpool gatecrashing the Avengers has given fans something to debate over — and a reason to keep watching his feed.
