The trailer for Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikkam presents a tense, visceral recreation of the 26/11 Kasab trial, with Rajkummar Rao portraying the relentless special public prosecutor. Set against the horror of the CST station attack, the film weaves legal, political and personal battles, highlighting Nikkam’s pursuit of justice while his wife struggles with illness. Directed by Avinash Arun, it releases October 16.
The makers of the Rajkummar Rao-starrer Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikkam launched the debut trailer of the film on Monday. The visual asset, in just over 3 minutes, paints a gory, grueling and high-stakes picture of the unseen events of the 26/11 Kasab Trial.
Headlining this story is Rao, who has stepped into the challenging shoes of Indian special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikkam who, during the time, lead the case. Directed by Avinash Arun, the film also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher in lead roles.
The trailer begins with a backdrop of Mumbai's CST station and a voiceover of Ujjwal Nikkam (Rao) asking a young girl whether she remembers the attack on the night of November 26. She replies saying "woh raat main kabhi nahin bhool sakti" (I can never forget that night).
What follows is a recollection of the distressing events from that night: two gunmen entering the station and firing their AK-47s at the crowd, in unceasing, unforgiving rage.
The case unfolds throughout of the rest of the trailer. As Rao fights and challenges the legal system to expose the gunmen, he faces opposition from Kher's character, who fights for the accused, and Ahlawat who steps into the case as part of a delegation from Islamabad. Midst the high-stakes case and his dicey position in it, Rao fights another emotional battle — supporting his wife (Gabbi) who seems to be fighting her own battles with health in the trailer.
Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikkam Story is produced by Dinesh Vijan and will arrive in theatres on October 16.
