Streamer JioHotstar has announced the release date of Pritam and Pedro, the long-format debut of filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani as a showrunner and producer. Directed by Avinash Arun, known for acclaimed shows like Paatal Lok and School of Lies, as well the gentle indie features Killa and Three of Us, the series is set to premiere on July 3.
The first-look glimpse of Pritam and Pedro teases an unusual premise involving an abandoned ATM on a beach and two men caught in a mystery. The makers have plot and cast details officially under wraps. As per earlier reports, Rajkumar Hirani’s son, Vir Hirani, is making his acting debut in the series, and will star alongside Arshad Warsi.
According to the makers, the series aims to blend humour, emotion and unpredictability within a rooted setting. Hirani, best known for directing commercially and critically successful Hindi films including Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., 3 Idiots and PK, is making his debut in the streaming world with the project.
"I've always enjoyed stories where very different people are forced to come together and navigate life in unexpected ways,” Rajkumar Hirani said in a statement. “Pritam and Pedro have a lot of humour, warmth and madness in that sense. The long-format space gave us the opportunity to spend more time with the characters and really explore their journey. It’s been an exciting experience, and I’m happy to partner with JioHotstar for it.”
