Ajith Kumar Unhurt After "Nerve-Wracking" Crash in Portugal
The actor-racer discusses his recent crash, the role of his team in getting him back on track, and the continued love from fans.
Soon after the release of Vidaamuryarchi (2025), actor-racer Ajith Kumar met with another accident before his race in Estoril, Portugal. He returned to racing in 2025, after a 13-year long break and competed in the 24H Dubai endurance race earlier this year with his own team, Ajith Kumar Racing.
“It feels great to be racing here in Estoril on the track,” said the actor in a video posted by a fan page on YouTube, on the sidelines of a practice run. “It’s very surreal to be sitting in the car on the circuit. It’s a proud moment, actually. It’s a very technical circuit; I’m glad my timing is getting better. It’s been a good weekend so far.”

He touched upon his recent crash during the practice run but was grateful to have escaped unhurt. “Of course, this morning, it was disastrous in practice when I crashed. I had a bad crash,” he said. “Thanks to my team, they put the car together and had to go straight for the qualifying."
Describing it to be a “nerve-wracking moment”, he added that he’s happy his fans have started following racing because of him. He expressed, “I’m extremely grateful not just to the fans but to everybody back home who have been following me and wanting to know what I’m up to. I give my thanks to all of them.”
This incident marked the actor’s second crash since he returned to racing. Last month, during the practice run of the 24H Dubai race, Ajith crashed into a barrier and his car spun entirely. Despite the incident, they had a successful run as his team placed third in the 991 category and also won the Spirit of The Race award in the GT4 category.
