Mumbai police have arrested Vedika Prakash Shetty, a former personal assistant to Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt, on charges of embezzling nearly ₹77 lakh from Bhatt’s production company and private accounts.

According to reports, the arrest was made in Bengaluru earlier this week by officers from Mumbai’s Juhu police station. Shetty, 32, had been employed with Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions Private Limited since 2021 and held access to financial operations, including the processing of invoices and approval of routine expenses.

Shetty was presented before a magistrate in Bandra on Tuesday and has been remanded to police custody until July 10.

The police confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered in January, following a complaint lodged by Bhatt’s mother, actor Soni Razdan. Investigations revealed that Shetty allegedly fabricated multiple invoices and used Bhatt’s digital signature to authorise payments.

According to investigators, the funds were initially transferred to a third-party account held by a friend of Shetty’s and later redirected to her own. Officials said Shetty had been on the run for several months, frequently changing her location to evade arrest.

The cops claimed Shetty had access to sensitive financial systems and used that position to generate false paperwork. The money trail was traced to an associate’s account, but the investigators believe Shetty was the primary beneficiary. While the friend in question reportedly did not retain any of the funds, both individuals are currently being questioned as police seek to recover the full amount.

Eternal Sunshine Productions has not released a formal statement, but sources close to the actor indicated that internal audits flagged discrepancies late last year, prompting further scrutiny. At the time of publishing this article, police said the investigation for this case is ongoing and further arrests have not been completely ruled out yet.

On the work front, Bhatt will be next seen on the big screen in Alpha, set to release this December.
