The Tamil actor was brought in for questioning earlier on Monday for drug abuse charges.
Tamil actor Srikanth was arrested on Monday by the Nungambakkam police of the Greater Chennai Police for allegedly buying cocaine from a drug cartel in Chennai. The Hindu reported that the cartel includes a Ghanaian national who was recently arrested. The authorities are reportedly also on the lookout for actor Krishna, who is believed to be in Kerala.
A senior police officer confirmed the arrest to the publication and said that Srikanth had been in regular contact with three arrested drug offenders. “Our investigation revealed that he procured and consumed cocaine... Further investigation is underway,” the officer told The Hindu. The actor has been remanded in judicial custody until July 7, according to certain reports.
The actor's blood samples were collected and sent for testing after a detailed interrogation on Monday, after which his test came back positive for narcotics. He was examined at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The police reportedly searched Srikanth’s residence in the Nungambakkam Lake Area, where the drug in small quantities was seized.
Srikanth was called in to be questioned by the cops on suspicion of his links with former AIADMK functionary Prasad, who had been arrested earlier for drug trafficking.
Srikanth began his acting journey with the television serial Jannal – Marabu Kavithaigal directed by K. Balachander in 1999, before debuting in Tamil cinema with the 2002 romance-drama Roja Kootam. He is known for his roles in films such as Manasellam, Parthiban Kanavu and Nanban. In 2023, he acted in Telugu with Okariku Okaru. He was last seen in the film Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal, which was released earlier this year.
Earlier in 2025, two rising Malayalam film directors, Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamsa, were arrested after authorities found a small quantity of suspected "hybrid ganja" in their possession during a raid on a Kochi apartment. The arrests came as Kerala’s Excise Department intensified a sweeping anti-drug campaign within the Malayalam film industry. Separately, actors Shine Tom Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi also appeared before Excise officials in connection with a separate drug seizure. The broader crackdown has reignited debate about drug use within Kerala’s thriving film community.
