The Antony Pepe film is all set for the widest international release for a Malayalam film.
Antony Pepe’s Kattalan, produced by Shareef Muhammed, has signed a deal, making the action thriller one of the most widely released international releases for a Malayalam film. The deal has been signed with Phars Films, the overseas distributor of most high-profile Malayalam films. The shoot of the film is still underway, but the makers have managed to lock its worldwide release. The same makers had earlier produced Marco, a blockbuster, which earned more than ₹100 crore. Kattalan has been marketed right from its launch as a grand pan-Indian movie.
According to a press note from the team, the shoot of the action film was stalled because the lead actor suffered an injury. “The incident occurred during the shoot in Thailand, while filming a combat scene involving an elephant.” The film is being directed by first-time director Paul George, and the action sequences involving elephants are being choreographed by Kecha Khamphakdee, known for their work in international action thrillers, including the Ong-Bak series.
The film’s music is composed by Ajaneesh Loknath, with the script being written by Joby Varghese, Paul George, and Jero Jacob. The film's dialogue is by Unni R. Kattalan and will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, with reports suggesting a May 2026 theatrical release.
In an earlier interview, Antony Pepe had opened up about how he transformed himself for his previous release and how that changed his perception in the industry. The inspiration for him was Arya in Pa.Ranjith’s Sarpatta Parambarai. “But I realised through this process that both the audience and people within the industry look at you with so much respect once you go through a transformation like I did in Daveed. It’s not just about how I looked or performed in this movie, but they feel I will put in the effort to learn something totally new if a script challenges me. That, in a sense, will hopefully get writers to think of me, no matter what genre. Isn't that a way a break your image?”
