The Salman Khan-starrer 'Sikandar' opened to widespread negative reviews and was a disaster at the box-office.
Filmmaker AR Murugadoss didn't quite like (or understand) the shooting timelines while working with superstar Salman Khan in Sikandar. The director, best known for helming the blockbuster Aamir Khan-starrer Ghajini, opened up about the strange challenge of filming with a star like Salman for his actioner, which bombed at the box-office.
"It’s not easy to shoot with a star. Even day scenes, we have to shoot at night because he turns up to sets only by 8 PM," Murugadoss said in an interview with Valaipechu Voice. "We are people who are used to shooting right from early mornings, but that’s not how things work there," he said while opening up about his experience of working on the sets of Sikandar.
The filmmaker said even though Salman would reach the sets ready for the day’s shoot, by the time he arrived, other actors would already be exhausted.
"If there were four kids in a scene, we would have to shoot with them at 2AM, even if it’s the shot of them returning from school! They would become tired by that time and usually dozed off."

In June, Sikandar was at the centre of a precedent-setting insurance claim, after piracy reportedly caused losses amounting to ₹91 crore. The film’s troubles began on the eve of its theatrical debut, when a high-definition version of surfaced on multiple piracy websites. Unlike the typical shaky camcorder leaks, this version was a clean, HD print and even included unfinished VFX and deleted scenes not intended for public release.
Despite high expectations and a festival release window, the action drama underperformed at the box office, barely crossing the ₹100 crore mark in India.
