Addressing fans at a recent event, actor Silambarasan TR opened up about his upcoming film Arasan, directed by Vetrimaaran, confirming the film's delayed release and comparing the film's release scale to that of the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar.
Discussing the film's stacked cast and crew, which includes Vijay Sethupathi, Samuthirakani, Ashwath Marimathu along with music by Anirudh Ravichander, the actor claimed the film would do for Tamil cinema what Dhurandhar did for the Hindi film industry. "I'm joining with Anirudh for Arasan. Like how Dhurandhar came from Hindi and made their industry proud, which was watched by all the audience across India, Arasan will make Tamil cinema proud."
Silambarasan also addressed the film's release timeline, confirming that it will not arrive in theatres for the Pongal 2027 release window. He explained that while production could be fast-tracked to ensure the film meets the festival window, doing so would compromise the film's quality, calling it "a major mistake."
"You all know about Vetri sir; he is a director who seeks perfection," said the actor, regarding the reason for the film's delay. "Therefore, we have decided to take time and shoot the film properly," he shared.
The actor did however reveal that a unique video, titled 'The World of Arasan', will be released by the makers on Deepavali. According to Silambarasan, the video will feature exclusive footage from what has been shot for the film so far.
Detailing the film's scale, he shared,"This is not a small film as you think, it will have my character's life cycle from young to old age, with multiple getups."
He further added, "The film has six getups, with many characters. We have completed three characters so far, but there are still some portions pending."
Arasan is written and directed by Vetrimaaran, and functions as an addition to the universe of his 2018 film Vada Chennai. An early draft Vetrimaaran wrote for the project had Silambarasan in mind, before the role went to Dhanush in Vada Chennai.
Arasan follows Silambarasan's character across two timelines, one as a bloodied gangster driven by vengeance, and later as an older man in a courtroom on trial for three murders.
The cast brings Vijay Sethupathi as a new addition to the Vada Chennai universe, alongside returning actors Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani, Kishore and Ameer, who will reprise their roles from the 2018 film. Priyanka Arulmohan plays the female lead, with Yogi Babu in a supporting role.
On the technical side, the film is produced by Kalaippuli S. Anirudh Ravichander is composing music for the film, Velraj is the cinematographer, editing is by Ramar, along with action choreography by Peter Hein.
