After months of speculations, superstar Salman Khan has finally announced his film Battle of Galwan, in which he will be seen as an army officer. THR India was the first to report that Khan had greenlit the project, which Apoorva Lakhia will direct.

The actor took to his social media and dropped the motion poster of the film. "Over 15,000 ft. above sea level, India fought its most brutal battle without firing a single bullet," the makers said as they unveiled Khan's first look from the film—sporting a moustache, with blood dripping from his forehead, gripping a thorn-covered wooden stick.

The film is set against the backdrop of the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict, which broke out between Indian and Chinese troops in June 2020 in the Indian territory of Ladakh. At least 20 Indian soldiers were killed, with nearly 45 Chinese casualties. In September 2020, for the first time in 45 years, shots were fired along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

While there is no confirmation, reports suggest Khan might be playing Colonel B Santosh Babu, the officer who led the 16 Bihar Regiment during the clash.

Lakhia's action thriller is based on the novel India’s Most Fearless by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh. The filmmaker is known for titles like Shootout at Lokhandwala, Mission Istaanbul, and Ram Charan's Hindi debut Zanjeer.

Khan has had a rough time at the box office post-pandemic. In 2020, he delivered Tiger 3, which underperformed at the box office, and the comedy Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which was a failure. After a few special appearances in Baby John and Singham Again, Khan returned with Sikandar in 2025, which bombed at the box office.

The team of Battle of Galwan is looking to begin filming this month in Ladakh with a 2026 release window. Chitrangda Singh is rumored to join the cast soon.
