After initially withdrawing from a theatrical release due to geopolitical tension in the country and announcing that the film would premiere on OTT instead, the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf have now zeroed in on a new release date in theatres: May 23. The move comes after leading exhibitor chain PVR Cinemas had filed a lawsuit against Dinesh Vijan-led Maddock Films, along with Pen Marudhar for backing out from the film's intended May 9 theatrical release.

PVRInox had claimed that the last-minute move to release the Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi movie on Prime Video had caused them damages to the tune of ₹60 crore.

But the romantic-comedy is now back on track for a big screen release, following "open, constructive discussions with all stakeholders," a joint statement from the makers and the exhibitor read.

Dinesh Vijan, Founder, Maddock Films, said, "As our surroundings begin to heal, we’re especially grateful to offer a theatrical experience for a film that speaks from the heart. In these times, when family means everything, we urge audiences to head to theatres with their loved ones, share a laugh, reflect on life, and enjoy a story that, we hope, brings joy. We’re also incredibly thankful to our exhibitors as partners for their continued support, flexibility, and commitment to theatrical storytelling. The release environment has changed for the better, and we’re proud to collaborate once again with them for our film’s release."

We are thankful for their continued faith in the theatrical model and their decision to bring this film to audiences where it truly belongs — in cinemas."

Bhool Chuk Maaf also stars Sanjay Mishra, Seema Pahwa, Zakir Hussain and Raghubir Yadav.
