PVRInox reportedly claims the last-minute move to release the Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi movie on a streaming platform has caused them damages to the tune of ₹60 crore.
According to well-placed sources, PVRInox filed a case with the court to stay the release of Bhool Chuk Maaf on Prime Video, where it is scheduled to stream from May 16. The hearing for the same took place on Friday, with representatives of both parties present in court.
"PVR has requested the court to ask Maddock to release the film in theatres, followed by a digital release post the customary 8-week window. The hearing took place on Friday and the verdict is expected on Monday," the source told THR India.
Two days before its theatrical outing, the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf had announced that they would no longer be going ahead with the release in cinemas due to the geopolitical tensions in the country.
"In view of current events and intensified national security protocols, Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to release Bhool Chuk Maaf, our family entertainer, straight to your screens—exclusively on Prime Video, worldwide," the makers had said.
While the exhibitor community was livid at the sudden change in plans of Maddock—which is on a successful spree with films like Stree 2 and Chhaava—others maintain that the production house made the right call considering the rising uncertainty in the country, which will discourage footfalls in cinemas.
