Producer Ravi Bhagchandka, best known for bringing unconventional yet impactful stories to the screen, is now turning his attention to one of India’s most haunting real-life tragedies. His upcoming film, Bombay High, is a disaster drama inspired by the catastrophic offshore oil platform accident that shook the nation decades ago.

The title takes its name from the Bombay High oil field in the Arabian Sea, a crucial contributor to India’s energy supply. In the midst of its operations, tragedy struck — an accident that resulted in a devastating loss of lives, severe environmental damage, and a national reckoning over industrial safety. While the incident was widely covered in the media at the time, the human stories of workers, rescuers, and grieving families remained largely untold.

With Bombay High, Bhagchandka seeks to give this forgotten disaster the cinematic attention it deserves. The film will not only capture the terrifying scope of the accident but also highlight the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of those involved.

Helming the project is acclaimed filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan, whose credits include Take Off, Malik, and C U Soon. Known for his distinctive storytelling that blends scale with emotional depth, Narayanan brings a sharp eye for both realism and drama.

The screenplay has been penned by Anubhav Chopra, co-director of Netflix’s House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths. “Bombay High is a visceral survival thriller that examines our dangerous belief that nature can be bent to our will without consequences. It also shines a light on the massive search and rescue operation undertaken by the Indian Coast Guard, Navy, and Air Force,” Chopra said.
