'D55': Mammootty Joins Dhanush's Film With Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela
The film will be directed by Rajkumar Periasamy.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty will be part of Dhanush's upcoming film with Rajkumar Periasamy. Wunderbar Films made the announcement on X. "When the Big M chooses a story, it becomes history Super excited to welcome Megastar @mammukka onboard #D55! We are honoured! Thank you #Mammootty sir," the post read.
It was recently announced that Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela will be joining the star cast. The film will mark the director's first on-screen collaboration with Dhanush. Dhanush also has Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja and starring Mamitha Baiju, awaiting a release date. The upcoming film is headed for a summer 2026 release and is written by Vignesh Raja and Alfred Prakash. Theni Eswar, Sreejith Sarang and Mayapandi will make up the remaining technical crew. Vignesh grew to fame for directing the investigative thriller Por Thozhil, co-starring Ashok Selvan and Sarathkumar in 2023. It will also have Sai Abhyankkar as the composer.
Director Rajkumar Periasamy delivered a blockbuster with Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Sai Pallavi and Geetha Kailasam in 2024. Dhanush was last seen in his own directorial, the Tamil film Idli Kadai, as well as Aanand L Rai's Tere Ishk Mein, alongside Kriti Sanon. Written by Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav, Tere Ishk Mein also starred Prakash Raj, Ravi Kishan and Priyanshu Painyulli. With music by AR Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil, the film was produced by T-Series and Colour Yellow Productions. The film became the first ₹100 crore Bollywood grosser for Dhanush, who had earlier appeared in Hindi titles like Raanjhanaa, Shamitabh—co-starring Amitabh Bachchan—and Atrangi Re, which was a direct-to-streaming release during the pandemic.
Sai Pallavi was last seen in the Telugu film Thandel last year, and will next be seen in Ek Din, alongside Junaid Khan. The upcoming Hindi film will be released in May 2026 and is a remake of a popular Thai film. Mammootty, who was last seen in a special apperance in Chatha Pacha, will next be seen alongside Mohanlal in Patriot, and in Adoor Gopalakrishnan's film.
