Global sensation Ed Sheeran caught his fans by surprise when he took to Church Street in Bengaluru with a surprise performance. In a viral video on social media, the police stopped the singer’s ‘Shape of You’ performance midway by pulling the plug on the speaker.

Sheeran responded with a statement on his Instagram handle that despite having all the necessary permissions to perform at the spot in particular, the police decided to shut it down. He later also stated that the performance wasn’t spontaneous but planned.

The incident sparked controversy online and left fans divided. However, the Grammy-winning artist surprised his fans once again, by singing a special rendition of the popular Telugu track ‘Chuttamalle’ with singer Shilpa Rao at his Bengaluru concert on February 9. The song was sung by Rao in the Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Devara in 2024.

This came soon after the singer's performance with AR Rahman in Chennai, a mash up of 'Shape of You' and Rahman’s 'Urvasi Urvasi'.
