A line in the Eko trailer says, “No man can judge another as precisely as a dog can.”

This is one of the many intriguing layers hidden within Eko, the third film in the "Animal Trilogy." Written and shot by Bahul Ramesh, the two previous works in this series were Kishkindha Kaandam (starring Asif Ali) and the recent Malayalam series Kerala Crime Files: Season Two: The Search for CPO Ambili Raju. Kishkindha Kaandam director Dinjith Ayyathan will be directing Eko as well.

In the film's trailer, there’s almost no talk of a plot. We listen to lines about a breed of canine from Malaysia and of a man who supplied these dogs to the Navy, but not much else is revealed in terms of characters and what these dogs have to do with them. The film itself is set in a hilly terrain and it appears that it could be set in different timelines, across different countries and decades. Apart from a small hint of how multiple people appear to be looking for one person, there’s not much that can be deciphered from the mysterious trailer. The full title of the film reads, “Eko: From The Infinite Chronicles Of Kuraichan," further adding to the intrigue.

In an earlier interview to THR India about his two earlier projects as writer, Bahul had underscored his love to invite multiple interpretations from his viewers. He said, “I do not think we need to spoon-feed our audiences, and I got the confidence after seeing the response for Kishkindha Kaadam. When we read those comments and see viewers explaining the order of events and who killed whom, we feel validated. We enjoy it the most when their explanations go above and beyond what we had thought of as possibilities.” This, too, he feels, springs from his aim to respect the audience’s intelligence. “If we had shown an obvious ending or had spoonfed an explanation, it’s like insulting their intelligence. After the series is out, we must give them the space for as many interpretations.”
