Actor Prabhas' long-awaited historical period drama Fauzi, helmed by Sita Ramam director Hanu Raghavapudi, will not be arriving theatres on its planned release date of December 3. Y Ravi Shankar, CEO and director of Mythri Movie Makers, who are producing the film, announced the delay during the launch function of The Paradise. According to the producer, the team of Fauzi needs more time to wrap up the project. Shankar said he regrets keeping the audiences waiting, adding that it would be worth it as it is Prabhas' biggest offering since the Baahubali franchise.
“Fauzi is something else," Ravi Shankar was quoted as saying. "It may go a little back in time, but it is on a completely different level. After Baahubali, you have not seen Prabhas in such a great film at that level. If I may say, we are pushing the release back a little, but you will cherish this film for your entire life. It is such a great film.”
In July this year, news of the film started spreading rapidly after the creators launched a poster featuring Prabhas playing a war-torn soldier with the now-defunct release date. Earlier reports claimed Fauzi's post-production process has become challenging due to his heavy reliance on visual effects and recreating scenes set in colonial times.
Fauzi is set against the backdrop of the British Raj, where Prabhas plays a soldier amid big action scenes combined with romance and emotion. It serves as the first acting role for the lead actress, Imanvi, alongside Mithun Chakraborty, Jaya Prada, and Anupam Kher in supporting roles. There has been no announcement yet regarding the new release date, but reports indicate late January or early February next year.
Fauzi adds to Prabhas's list of high-profile upcoming titles, which includes Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit, Kalki 2898 AD: Part II, and Salaar 2.
Prabhas had revealed in an earlier interview that he did not suffer from lack of work but coordination problems. Mythri Movie Makers produced is producing Fauzi and the film is presented by T-Series Films. The music composed by Vishal Chandrasekhar.
